A year ago I went down the rabbit hole of the benefits of turmeric. After learning what a Turmeric Latte was and giving it a try, it quickly became a part of my daily breakfast routine.  Not only was it delicious, it was packed with a number of healthy benefits. Turmeric is a spice that comes from the turmeric plant and is in the same family as ginger root. It is one of nature's super foods and has an endless amount of benefits.

The Active ingredient in Turmeric is Curcumin which is a very powerful Anti-Inflammatory that is great for gut health as well as chronic pain.  It can fight off heart disease and help with depression. Turmeric is also an antioxidant star!  This is because curcumin not only blocks damage-causing free radicals in the body, it also stimulates the body's own antioxidant defenses and mechanisms.

Last year I noticed my skin was constantly breaking out in the same area.  I had pus filled pimples around my chin and didn't know why. I learned inflammation of the skin mixed with a lot of other things could be the cause of my acne.  Because acne is deeper than what you see on the surface, I really wanted to heal my skin from the inside out. I heard about the magic of the turmeric latte so I ran to Whole Foods to test  it out. Lucky for me, Whole Foods carries the ready made Organic Golden Milk Super Blend by Sunfood. The ingredients include Turmeric, goji berry, cinnamon (another anti-inflammatory food) and black pepper. I like mine with Warm Almond Milk and teaspon of coconut oil and just a bit of honey and extra cinnamon. I was consistent for a month and noticed a decrease in my acne.  I couldn't believe it. Did I just find my holy grail!? I think so!

You can drink Turmeric Latte’s warm or cold.  Since Turmeric is fat-soluble and is best absorbed into the bloodstream with the presence of fat, I add the teaspoon of coconut oil.  If you are not used to the taste, I would say to start off slowly with just a teaspoon and eventually work your way up to more. As always, what works for me may not be your Holy Grail but this is always a delicious drink to add to your diet! Thanks for reading fam!
